Funding extended for low and no-cost counselling services in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

February 2, 2022

Two local community groups will be receiving extended funding from the province to continue low and no-cost counselling services.

Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services and the Cythera Transition House Society are two of 49 community agencies across the province that will be receiving the funding.

It is part of the NDP government’s investment of $4.2 million to support community counselling services in B.C..

“After the last few years, the need for accessible mental health services has been more clear than ever, and we know that need is growing,” said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. “That’s why our government is extending funding for these important and lifesaving counselling services.”

During the pandemic, additional funding was provided by the government to more community counselling organizations to help them offer their services virtually. Since 2019, the government claims that more than 100,000 counselling sessions have been provided to people as a result.

“It’s no secret that people can face barriers to accessing counselling,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission.
