Success Story: Obtaining a Senior Management Position – How Bold Networking Paid Off

April 16, 2025

After a challenging seven-month job search, a determined client from the Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre has landed a senior management role—complete with a signing bonus and a solid team to lead. While the opportunity has meant leaving Metro Vancouver and relocating to another province, she is delighted.

This client first came to the Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre seeking direction and support. She accessed the resource centre to explore labour market information, received one-on-one coaching, and was encouraged to expand her professional network—even though she admitted it wasn’t her favourite strategy. She read and was told repeatedly: network, network, network. “I absolutely hate networking,” she shared, “but it needs to be done. All the sounding boards say it, and they’re right. Bold networking is how I landed my first interview.”

Despite the emotional and financial strain of an extended job search, she continued her job search. Her perseverance paid off in a big way when a company saw her potential and pursued her, even offering a signing bonus to secure her leadership.

Though disappointed that a local opportunity in the Lower Mainland didn’t materialize, she is optimistic about the move to Winnipeg and the benefits of a significantly lower cost of living.

Her message for other job seekers is clear: “It was a lot of work looking for work. If my nugget about networking can help anyone else, please pass it on.”

The Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre is proud to have been part of her journey and wishes her every success in this exciting next chapter.
