The First Katzie Nation Career Fair – A Success!

December 13, 2025

The first-ever Katzie First Nation Career Fair was a remarkable success, bringing together community members, employers, and service delivery partners for an uplifting afternoon of learning, connection, and opportunity. The event began with a traditional welcome and prayer from a Katzie Elder, connecting everyone in culture and community before the busy and inspiring day.

A total of 28 employers and community partners participated, representing a wide range of industries and career pathways. Among them was Skilled Trades BC, who recently partnered with the Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre to deliver an information session for those exploring careers in the trades.

To spark engagement, attendees received passport-style bingo cards, collecting stamps from each organization they connected with for a chance to win exciting door prizes including beautiful gifts featuring artwork by Indigenous artists Gordan White (Haida) and Francis Drake.

The energy in the room was warm, bustling, and positive. Over 50 community members, including school-aged youth, came to explore new opportunities, ask questions, and discover where they can receive support as they move toward their employment and career goals. It was especially meaningful to welcome motivated job seekers eager to re-enter the workforce and help the growing local labour market.

We also connected with employers keen to collaborate – from hosting hiring and interview days at our Centre to creating career exploration and information sessions across sectors, including trades and administration roles. These conversations set the stage for future partnerships that will continue to strengthen the community and support both job seekers and businesses.

The afternoon offered not only valuable career conversations but also the chance to share a meal, reconnect with familiar faces, and build new relationships focused on meaningful employment and community growth.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us, job seekers, youth, employers, Elders, and partners, thank you for making this first career fair such a positive and memorable event.
