The Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre offers the following career exploration and job search workshop series. Please check the calendar for upcoming workshops.

The Discovery of Work Options

This series of workshops is for individuals interested in career exploration. Career and occupational assessments, career planning, goal setting, labour market research and job search are some of the topics covered by the workshops. The series is delivered over one week; participants attend a five hour workshop each day. In addition to the workshops, participants will be supported by a Career Coach.

Leading Edge Job Search

This series of workshops is for individuals who are looking only for the essentials to conduct a job search. Workshop topics include identifying skills, resume and cover letter development, obtaining references, communication, self-marketing, accessing the Hidden Job Market, informational interviews, networking and job maintenance strategies. Workshops are delivered over one week; participants attend a five hour workshop each day. In addition to the workshops, participants will be supported by a Career Coach.

Steps to Training Success

This workshop is for individuals considering skills training. This workshop assist individuals the readiness necessary to build and complete a skills development application. Individuals will research and develop a skills plan to support the career options they identified within The Discovery of Work Options workshop series. Workshop is delivered in 1 day; participants attend a six hour workshop each day. In addition to the workshops, participants will be supported by a Career Coach.

Practice Interviews

The practise interview skills workshop provides individuals with the experience to learn about what skills are required to have a successful interview, and what interviewers are generally looking for in a candidate. You will have the opportunity to practise your responses and receive real time feedback. After this workshop, you will be better prepared to answer interview questions and have a better understanding at building rapport with the interviewer. These can be arranged with our Resource Centre Advisor.

Changeways

This program offers individualized and evidence-based therapy for adults wishing to address a wide variety of life concerns, including depression, anxiety, panic, and difficulties associated with major life changes.

Skills Accelerator

This workshop series is for individuals who would like to brush up on their skills to re-enter the workforce. This workshop focusses on your Employment Goal and the skills required to be successful. Topics include understanding the tasks required to exceed in your role such as …..
Workshops are delivered over 3 weeks; participants attend a six hour workshop each day.

Sto:lo Aboriginal Skills & Employment Training (SASET)

A SASET Career Coach is available at the WorkBC Offices to offer tailored employment and training support to better serve our Indigenous community.

SASET’s employment and training funding is targeted to support unemployed or underemployed Indigenous individuals by helping them overcome barriers and achieve sustainable employment.

Services include:

  • Career counselling and employment planning
  • Training and skills development
  • Essential skills and vocational supports (up to one year of training, including tuition, books, and related costs)
  • Employer-focused programs such as Targeted Wage Subsidies and Student Employment Programs

In Education R & D, participants will be guided through hands-on research to explore educational options and supports. You will develop a personalized plan that aligns with your unique circumstances, helping to set the foundation for educational success.

 

Longer Term Skills Upgrading and Career Preparation Programs

eTEA (Extraordinary Teens with Extraordinary Abilities)

This program is delivered in partnership with School District 42 and is for Grade 13 students with disabilities. A wide range of topics are covered to support participants to prepare for and enter the workforce. It is a 15 week program is offered on Fridays, full-day.
