When Omid first connected with the Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre, he was navigating important decisions about his future in the IT field. With the support of knowledgeable and dedicated staff, he was able to build a clear career path, from education to meaningful employment.
His journey began with guidance from his Maple Ridge WorkBC Case Manager who helped him explore post-secondary options. Together, they reviewed the differences between certificate, diploma, and degree programs, allowing Omid to make an informed decision that aligned with his career goals. With this support, he successfully completed an IT diploma, setting a strong foundation for entering the workforce.
Following his studies, he began working with an Employment Placement Specialist who provided personalized, hands-on support throughout his job search. This included developing a tailored employment plan, refining his resume for different IT roles, and participating in mock phone and video interviews to strengthen his confidence and performance.
When initial applications resulted in limited responses, the WorkBC team helped him reassess and adjust his strategy; they encouraged him to focus on opportunities with smaller, local IT firms where his skills and experience could stand out. This shift, combined with ongoing encouragement and labour market insights from Centre staff, helped Omid maintain momentum and his confidence.
In addition to employment services, the Omid also benefited from practical supports, including a fuel subsidy, which helped him to fully participate in his job search.
