My WorkBC Success Story — Never Give Up!

Just one week before moving to Maple Ridge, I had unexpectedly lost my job. I was struggling to find employment, so I decided to reach out to WorkBC for support.

My résumé needed updating, and I took Joe’s résumé-building and career-search classes to improve my job search skills. I was also paired with a career coach who helped guide me through the process.

Despite applying for more than 30 jobs, I wasn’t having much luck. Then, an incredible opportunity came along: I was offered the chance to return to college to refresh my Medical Office certificate, which I had originally obtained in 2009. I attended Ridge Meadows College, worked hard, and proudly graduated in June!

I continued applying for positions in my newly refreshed field, and my hard work finally paid off. I secured two healthcare jobs at two well-established hospitals, and I began my new employment journey in October!

I am incredibly grateful to the entire WorkBC team for their encouragement, guidance, and support throughout this journey. Every person played an important role in helping me move forward, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Joe, Lisett, Daniel, Jessie, Glyn, and Ana Liza. Thank you all so much for believing in me and helping me work toward my goals. Your support has made a real difference in my life.

My advice to anyone looking for work is simple: Never give up! Trust the process, stay committed, and put in the work. Take advantage of the resources and guidance WorkBC offers, and if you have the opportunity to receive funding to return to school, consider taking it. Study hard, believe in yourself, and keep moving forward, even when things seem discouraging.

What I appreciate most is that WorkBC’s support doesn’t end once you find employment. They continue to check in, make sure you’re doing well, and remind you that you can reach out if you need further assistance.

I am truly thankful for the support I received from WorkBC. This journey taught me that setbacks don’t have to define your future. With determination, the right support, and a willingness to learn, new doors can open.

Thank you, WorkBC, for helping me turn a difficult situation into a new beginning! ❤️
