A New Career Chapter with Support from WorkBC
August 24, 2026
After 17 years working in retail, this mature worker was ready for a new employment opportunity. However, the client held limited experience with technology largely due to their previous employer’s reliance on customized systems and reports. This lack of experience was posing a challenge in today’s job market.
The client connected with the Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre, where they received a range of employment supports tailored to their needs. They participated in the Leading Edge Job Search and Ageless Ambitions workshops, strengthened their digital skills, and worked with the WorkBC team to improve their resume and build confidence with interviewing.
Their active engagement quickly began to pay off. The client was securing interviews but continued coaching and encouragement were important as they navigated the job search. When they began to question whether returning to work was still possible, their WorkBC team provided the encouragement to keep going.
Working with an Employment Placement Specialist, the client ultimately secured a cashier position that provides sustainable employment and meets their current needs.
“From you, Tracy and Hilda, I wasn’t sure I was going to find a job, but you helped me create a better resume and what to do during an interview and what questions to ask during the interview. You coached me when I was about to give up and just enjoy my retirement. I persevered and finally received an email to come in for an interview and was offered the position right away, which I accepted.”
Reflecting on their experience, the client said they had never heard of WorkBC before being referred to the Centre. They now understand the breadth of support available to people looking for work and would recommend WorkBC to others.
“I cannot thank WorkBC enough for helping me find a job. I will recommend to anyone asking me about finding work to contact WorkBC.”
The Maple Ridge WorkBC Centre is proud to have supported this client through their career transition, from strengthening job-search skills and digital confidence to providing one-to-one coaching and employment placement support. Their perseverance, determination and willingness to keep moving forward were key to achieving their employment goal.
