Aligning Credentials to Successfully Enter the BC Labour Market

Rokhsareh relocated to Canada from Tehran, with a background in accounting and bookkeeping. Despite her qualifications, they were not recognized in British Columbia, prompting her to take up part-time employment as a Customer Service Representative at London Drugs. She sought more stable employment to overcome financial obstacles and to fully utilize her skills. She found her way to WorkBC Maple Ridge for help.

Through the support of WorkBC, Rokhsareh was able to complete the Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification, aligning her credentials with Canadian standards. During her training, she received personalized guidance in crafting a targeted resume and cover letter, emphasizing her adaptable skill set for her desired field. WorkBC also provided one-on-one interview coaching, enabling her to effectively showcase her abilities to potential employers. Additionally, she was presented with tailored job opportunities suited to her aspirations.

After completion of her program, Rokhsareh was able to find full-time work with Maple Ridge Community Services as an Accounting Clerk. Reflecting on her  journey, she expressed satisfaction with her current role, remarking, “I am content with my position at Maple Ridge Community Service. Everything is running smoothly, and I am fulfilling my responsibilities with confidence.”
